Preparing Your Home & Yourself for the Winter Season

System - Tuesday, December 9, 2014

- Avoid frozen pipes and expensive repairs by taking hoses off outside faucets and draining the water that remains in the faucet before turning it off.

- Clean your gutters of any remaining leaves, sticks or other debris.

- If you have fuel remaining in your lawn mower, consider running the engine until the tank is empty.  Otherwise the remaining fuel might decompose while sitting in the shed or garage “varnishing” the carburetor and causing difficulty in the Spring when you need to star your mower again.

- Before cozying up to your fireplace on those cool Winter nights, have your chimney and vents inspected by a professional to make sure everything is clean and in good repair.

- Don’t wait for the first Winter storm to re-stock essentials…pick up ice melt, snow shovels, gloves, now.

- Top off antifreeze and windshield washer fluid in your car and consider keeping a “cold-weather” kit in the trunk of your car with maybe a blanket, bottled water, phone charger and first aid kit.
