Almost all of us have leftover pumpkins from Halloween or the Fall Season. After scouring the web, we’ve come up with a few ideas of what you can use them for afterwards.
Of course the most obvious use is for baking or cooking. You’ll find hundreds of recipes online for muffins, soups, dips, pies, etc. Your mouth should be watering just thinking about it.
The next most common use seems to be roasting the seeds. I might have to try this myself this year….when carving your pumpkin, pick out the seeds and wash them under cold water. Spread a single layer on a baking sheet, drizzle extra virgin olive oil and bake at 325 degrees for about 15 minutes. After you roast them, you can add them to dried fruit for a trail mix snack, put them on top of a salad for some crunch or in oatmeal.
Ask local farmers or even zoos/wildlife sanctuaries if they can use your leftover pumpkins. Some of them will use them for feeding livestock, etc.
You can find many ways to use them as craft projects, decorations, etc. Here are a few ideas we came across ….
1. Construct unique bird feeders. Birds are always looking for food in the cooler months and you can even include the seeds.
3. Creating a flower pot with a medium-sized pumpkin, cut a hole in the top the width of a mason jar. Remove all the innards of the pumpkin, place your flowers inside a mason jar of water. Lower the mason jar along with the flowers into the pumpkin and you’re done. It makes a beautiful centerpiece for a table or give them away as a gift.
4. Save them for the Christmas season and paint 3 pumpkins in varying sizes white and 1 black to build an adorable pumpkin snowman with them. Make a face out of anything you can find laying around the house, glue buttons for his coat and use any kind of fabric for a scarf.
