Thanksgiving Day Fun

It’s that time once again to gather ‘round the table and share the biggest meal of the year with the ones we love.  In between the food, football, family, and friends let us take time to really reflect on what we are thankful for and all the blessings in our life!

While you pass around the turkey and mashed potatoes, here are a few Thanksgiving Fun Facts to impress your friends and family with:

  • Some historians suggest the first Thanksgiving celebration was actually mid-October, not November.  It is Abraham Lincoln who eventually set the date of the Thanksgiving holiday we now celebrate to coincide with the Pilgrims’ landing on Plymouth rock.
  • According to research, most Americans actually prefer apple pie to pumpkin pie.
  • It is believed that the first Thanksgiving feast did not serve turkey, or at least not as the main course.  Instead, ducks, geese, and swans were served.
  • Pork is the second most-served main course after turkey during Thanksgiving meals.
  • Snoopy has made the most appearances of any balloon in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
